USWNT nearing even odds
Heading into the World Cup, the US and France were co-favorites on most betting sites, priced around +350.
That all changed after the US throttled Thailand 13-0.
The price on the US continues to fall, dropping to +275, then +175, and now settling around +140.
France, meanwhile, has crept up to +370 at FanDuel Sportsbook.

A case for France
Host-nation France plays the US on Friday. The US is -167 to France’s +134 to move on to the semifinals at DraftKings Sportsbook. That gives the US implied odds of better than 60% to win. FiveThirtyEight’sprobability algorithm sees this as closer, only giving the US a 54% chance of advancing.

While France played 30 minutes of extra time to get by Brazil in the Round of 16, they have five full days of rest before facing the US. They’re the host nation and will have the entire country behind them. They also blew the US off the field 3-0 back in January. France has the athletes to match the US stride for stride. If (and it’s not a huge “if”) France wins, they’ll be prohibitive favorites moving forward. If you like them, get that +400 now.
A case for England and Germany
I’ve felt England is the not-so-darkhorse to win this World Cup for months. They drew the US at the SheBelieves Cup in March and looked like the better team.
Their implied odds to advance to the semis (-164 / 62%) are the same as the US vs France. However their FiveThirtyEight probability to defeat Norway in the quarters is far better at 69%. If England get by Norway, expect them to get by France, who have by far the toughest bracket of any team in the World Cup.
If England does that, they’ll most likely face Germany in the finals.
The Germans are odds-on favorites to get past Sweden in the quarters and have the third-best probability as of now to win it all according to FiveThirtyEight.
They’re also on a significantly easier side of the bracket — their first genuine test may not come until the finals. That +500 continues to look like a bargain for a German team that have gotten the right breaks along the way.
